Sedona, Arizona

I had one week to relax in between 6 month blocks of rotations, so Ben and I started researching places to go and decided on going to Sedona, Arizona with Mom and Dad. We stayed at L'Auberge De Sedona and had a wonderful time relaxing, hiking, eating, and reading.

Our flight arrived in Phoenix, and we made the scenic (though stormy) drive to Sedona. After settling into our cabins at the resort, we had a delicious meal (foie gras, lobster bisque, lamb) at the creekside restaurant where we were joined by a skunk for a few (breathless/scary) moments.

The next day, we started off the vacation with some sunrise yoga, feeding the ducks by the creek, and a delicious brunch by the creekside restaurant. We ended the day with dinner at Shugrues Hillside Grill overlooking the gorgeous sedona landscape.

Our next adventure took us to the Grand Canyon. The drive itself up there from Sedona was beautiful. At the Grand Canyon, we stopped at the main look out point near the visitor's center, Mather Point. After that, Ben and I strapped on our hiking books and descended 1000ft into the Canyon on the Bright Angel Hiking Trail. On our way back to Sedona, we stopped to watch the Grand Canyon: Hidden Secrets IMAX about the discovery of the park. It's hard to imagine how people lived in this area many years ago and traveled down the Colorado rapids in hand-crafted canoes -- scary. After our long day driving and hiking, we found a cozy Italian restaurant, Dahl & Di Luca Ristorante, to have dinner back in Sedona.

The next day we spent relaxing around the resort (getting a deep tissue massage) and taking a short hike on a nearby mesa, Doe Mountain.

All in all, the perfect vacation. I came back feeling relaxed, refreshed, and ready to tackle the hardest 6 months of med school yet.
